When the pandemic hit, the restaurant industry was in trouble. Then outdoor dining became a thing. All the food spots were allotted a certain amount of space outside to set up some tables where people could eat, whether it was the sidewalk out front or a commandeered parking spot outside the business.

It was cool to see how creative restaurants got with decking out their outdoor dining set ups. Everything was going swimmingly, and then winter hit. The temperatures started to plummet below freezing along with some nippy wind chills on the side.

But that didn’t stop New Yorkers from going out, eating good food, and supporting local businesses…even if it meant being a bit uncomfortable. The people of New York City are some of the most resilient people in the world. And this ongoing series about outdoor dining this winter is going to document that resilience and dedication to the local community.
