Today, I'm thrilled to bring you a chat with artist Daniel Liang, who creates stunning cyberpunk scenes that evoke full worlds- worlds that seem to exist in a reality just beyond our imagination. I find this work to be so transportive and rich with detail and story. Let's dive right in to our conversation!
Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me today. To begin, can you introduce yourself to our community? Your name, where you are from and the mediums you work in?
Yeah I’m Daniel Liang from Taiwan, and I mainly use Blender and Photoshop for my works.
Awesome. You create such immersive and beautiful worlds. What are some early inspirations, how did you first encounter science fiction?
Hmm... ACTUALLY, I think it will be the manga “Naruto” hahaha!
Technically it’s not a science fiction, but in terms of visuals, you can find many “cyberpunk” things like pipes, and large immersive cities in that manga.
I loved that manga since I was ten years old or so and I think it's something that showed me what "cyberpunk" visuals are for the first time in my life.
How long have you been doing this sort of work? And when you begin an idea- how does that start, do you imagine a scene and work towards building it, or do you like playing around with ideas as you go?
I started doing digital sci fi works since I turned 18 maybe, and now I'm 24 so it's been about 6 years. For personal works I like to gather some interesting ideas from my daily life, such as Buddha, Chinese buildings etc. I live in Taiwan so it's just things around me. So I tried to add them to my scifi works and found it looks cool!
What advice do you have for creatives who are earlier in their journey?
I think the most important things is to find something you love, so that you can dig into it, enjoy you time studying on it, and create with things you love, these things will make your creation unique.
What’s been your experience with cryptoart so far, and where can people find your work? Do you have any recent pieces out that we can highlight here?
I’m still trying to build the relationship with this community since I’m not on Twitter until March this year, but I’d say cryptoart is definitely something that can change how digital artist pursuing their career, or at least it’s another option.
Well I love your work and I’m very much looking forward to seeing your journey unfold in this space! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your work with us! To the reader, find Daniel Liang on Twitter, SuperRare, and Artstation!
